Jason's Book Club

As I read books I'll post a quick summary and my rating of the book.

Look at my striped shirt

Look at my striped shirt by The Phat Phree is an interesting read. I found this is the type of book I keep sitting on my night stand and I read a short story from time to time.

The book is composed of several short stories (if you want to call them that) from some of the favorite content from the popular website "The Phat Phree".

Let me preface this by saying I had no idea this website existed and no idea what this book was going to have to offer. When I purchased "I hope they serve beer in hell" Amazon was able to upsell me on this book.

Much like I Hope The Serve Beer in Hell I found this book utterly boring after about 10 of the stories. Soon it was just the same thing over and over. Perhaps this isn't my type of humor but when I read I want to read something that doesn't make me feel like I'm getting dumber.

If you agree with my other reviews on this site you probably won't like this book.

Don't waste your time on it.

The Female Brain

While attending a training class in Chicago the instructor recommended a booked by Louann Md Brizendine called "The Female Brain".

The book is summed up by saying, "a user's guide to new research about the female brain and the neurobehavioral systems that make us women."

The author is a very well educated individual that has the credentials to author such a book. It goes through the entire life of a female, from infant, teenager, young adult, adult, and so on.

I wanted to pick this book up and read it just to see if it would help me understand women anymore. I must admit, the portions I really enjoyed were the female adult brain section and after reading it some of the traits she mentions I understood.

Ugly Americans

Title: Ugly Americans
Author: Ben Mezrich

As I continue to read books by Ben Mezrich I picked up Ugly Americans at Barnes and Noble a month or so back. His books continue to entertain me and the length of the is perfect, fairly quick reads, and keep me interested to finish them amazingly quick.

How to rent vacation properties ...

Book: How to rent vacation properties by owner
Author: Christine Karpinski

I'm going on my 2nd full year as a vacation rental owner. My condo was purchased in September 2006 and my house in 2002, however, turned into a vacation rental in 2007.

After hours and hours of research on-line, countless hours chatting with other VR owners, networking with other VR owners, and the tons of podcasts I've listened to I decided to read a book I should of read 2 years ago.

Rigged

The Mercantile exchange AKA "The Merc". It's something I knew nothing about and stumbled upon another Ben Mezrich booked titled, "Rigged". It's a true story of an ivy league kid who changed the world of oil from Wall Street to Dubai.

The Mercantile Exchange in New York is the worlds largest physical commodity exchange. What started as the exchange for potatoes it now holds millions of dollars for energy products, metals, and other commodities being bought and sold on the trading floor.

21: Bringing down the house

My journey of reading Ben Mezrich books continue. After finishing Busting Vegas I picked up a copy of 21. I never saw the movie but the book has sparked my interest to see this movie and how similar both are (if similar).

Busting Vega$

Ben Mezrich, author of eight books, recently published Busting Vegas. The book is based on a true story of excess sex, love, violence, and beating the odds in Vegas. They aren't card counters but using a new unique and powerful system.

I hope they serve beer in hell

Another book club entry ..

Tucker Max is the author of "I hope they serve beer in hell" and it was recommended to me by a friend. Right away Tucker Max admits he is an asshole. Ok, so this is going to be an interesting book.

Just to give some background around it Tucker Max made himself a bit popular on-line with a blog. He has some insane stories from his college life over a 5 year period. They all involved girls and beer.

Confessions of a sub-prime lender

Another book club entry ..

The economy sucks, prices are rising on everything I buy and the real estate market is incredibly terrible. With all that being said I wanted to continue my research and really try to dig into the facts behind sub-prime mortgage lending. That's when I stumbled upon this book. From cover to cover I finished it under a week reading when I had time and it's certainly an easy read.

Richistan

As I finish books I'm going to give my two cents on them. The past month I've finished 3 books and want to share my thoughts around these. Moving forward I will continue to post books from my little "book club".

My first entry is for a book by Robert Frank titled "Richistan". This book is about a new society that is upon us, a society called Richistan. It's about old money and new money. The book compares how the new wealthy spend their money and how old money spend theirs.
