Buck Mountain - Norvin Green State Forest

This past weekend we completed a hike at Buck Mountain in Norvin Green State Forest. The trail ratings were moderate to difficult with the initial .1 mile up the major peak. I wasn't expecting a climb to the peak so quick but it was a very quick climb to the peak at the start. The rest of the hike was more of a moderate hike.

The two water passes were deeper and the water was flowing faster than normal. Our group (a total of 7 people) had to actually use walking sticks to pass it safely (generally it's just a little brook).

Views at the top of the peak were nice and very far in the distance you could see the New York City Skyline. Lots of fire pits at the peak which would make a nice dusk hike and a fire at the peak.

I rolled my ankle about 4 miles into it which made the final mile or so a little more difficult. I took up the rear and helped a few people get through the water passes at the end.

Overall, it's a great hike close to New York City. The terrain is very rocky, you have a few nice verticals that sneak up quickly on you, and some water to pass. High ankle boots are a must and a walking stick is handy (especially if it rained the previous day).
