Project Hillside

Project Hillside is a home restoration project Amber and I started. The property was purchased in August 2009 and is undergoing many enhancements, much of which we are doing ourselves. The property has been featured in The Weekender of The Times Leader, a leading North Eastern Pennsylvania newspaper.
Nestled between the towns making up "Back Mountain", Project Hillside is located in the unincorporated village of Shavertown in Pennsylvania. The village has a population of 8,544 residents and is a total of 16.1 square miles. The village of Shavertown is named for an early settler, Philip Shaver.
Project Hillside is located minutes from "The Lands at Hillside Farms", which is dedicated to restoring a magnificent agrictultural and summer estate to its original grandeur and creating an invaluable educational, cultural, and historic resource. The Lands has a working dairy farm, a remarkable restored cottage, and a dairy store with some of the best ice cream and fresh glass bottle milk available.
While Amber was looking for a home near where she grew up, we both fell in love with this area. It's a nice rural setting, yet close enough to downtown. The house has only had 2 owners (3 if you count the son of the previous owner, he inherited it and sold it to us) and rich in history, being built during the great depression. Many of the orginal features exist in excellent condition such as the stained glass window, hardwood floor, wood trim throughout the house, orginal light fixtures, door stops, door knobs, hinges, etc.
The goal is to restore this house nearly back to it's condition 80 years ago, starting slow, on a moderate budget.
